(Credit to MLPMerch and their visitors for photos & information) A bit of news regarding the "surprise toys" selection of MLP merchandise today, first with a new wave of Mashems, formerly known to MLP as "Fashems," and then moving on to discuss a quite unexpected change in packaging for the fifth series of Cutie Mark Crew figures, who will now also be available in blind capsules, most memorably as the same type as series' 1 & 2 Cutie Mark Crew, as well as the typical balloon packaging. Get more on this after the break. Series 12 Mash'ems available at WalmartTo begin with, a new wave of the Mashems figures by Basic Fun has begun to show up in Walmart locations across the U.S.. This is the 12th series in the line-up which began for MLP back in 2013. However, unlike then, the figures now come packaged inside of a sphere, rather than the cylindrical capsule that we've become used to over the years. This new wave features 6 new characters; Gallus, Ocellus, Smolder, Yona, Silverstream, and a mystery figure, whom MLPMerch theorizes will be Cozy Glow based on the shape of the silhouette. Unfortunately, Sandbar was left out of this set, leaving the student six incomplete, however he is available as part of the series 3 stack'ems! The UK site Abgee has already a listing presumably for this series if interested. Many thanks to my followers on Instagram for tagging me in their posts regarding that find, however another find regarding the series has popped up as well, over in China. A listing for the new series has popped up on Taobao, and it's quite different than what we would have expected. Unlike the original release of the wave, featured in purple confetti balloon packs, these are packaged in little blind capsules reminescent of the series 1 & 2 packaging, just with an aqua color scheme instead. News site and blog, MLPMerch, theorizes that this change could be due to a few reasons. In their words: "*They switched back to the capsules after negative feedback about the balloon packaging I personally believe that the main reason is their first theory listed above. Again, many thanks to everyone for chiming in on these findings!
